literary focus question #9

In my opinion, it would be very different if was told by Don Anselmo. This story is talking about Don Anselmo. This story is told from the point of view of the narrator, which couldn’t possibly understand completely about Don Anselmo. That’s why it only talk about how Don Anselmo acted. However, if this story was told by Don Anselmo, not only it’ll talk about how he act, but also his motivation and what he think. We’ll know was he sold the house the cheaper prize because of his pride hate being insulted or not. We’ll know was he clever or unaware of the potential problem when he didn’t reveal who owns the trees on his first visit to the lawyer’s office. That’s how I think it would be if told by Don Anselmo.

Literary focus - question #7

In my opinion, I think Terry didn’t make a good decision by questioning his father on his experiences in Vietnam. As we already knew, at first, his parents both avoided telling him about the experiences in Vietnam. This made Terry curious and wanted to find out, which led to him deciding to question his father. Normally, if your parent avoided telling you something, you have to know that there is something bad that they don’t want us to know, or it’s would simply hurt them if they speak about it. You should also know that when someone don’t want to tell you something, you have to respect them and not pushing them too much, since it’s their privacy. Yet in the story, Terry questioned his father and made his father broke. And still after Terry’s father told him, he still can’t understand it, and can't help his father. Then what’s the point of breaking someone when you can’t help them get better. That’s why I think it was a bad decision that Terry made.

Angel

It was nine o’clock in the morning. Sunshine seems to be reflected by water in the pool. On the trees along the pool, the birds were singing their songs as always and it seemed like that’s the only sound we can hear. Well, that’s before class 3B’s kids ran into the pool. It was their swimming period. After five minutes, the teacher started to take attendance until he called out for Nick.
“Nick! Why don’t you get change?” asked the teacher.
“No, and I won’t!” answered Nick in a stubborn way.
The teacher’s face turned red. He stood up and left. The other kids started to take Nick’s shirt off and teased him. After struggling very hard, Nick was finally beaten his shirt has been taken off. Nick immediately rolled himself up, like he want to hide something A shocking look appeared on the kids’ faces as they saw Nick’s back. Their mouth and eyes are wide-opened. Nothing very special, except for the two scars , ran along Nick’s back.
“Monster! Don’t come near me! We human aren’t disgusting as you!” shouted one of the kid.
Then, for the rest of the week, no one see Nick go to school.
“Nick! Stop locking up like that! Let’s me in!” shouted Mrs. Mary.
“No! Never! Everyone is scared of me!” answered Nick, his voice shivered.
“Don’ you say that, everybody love you.” replied Mrs. Mary.
“Well, then explain to me about their humiliating looks, about their saying, about my new ‘names’ I received from those I called friends!” said Nick.
Mrs. Mary started to hear weeping noises. She turned and walked away, with tears on her face.
The next day, she decided to go to Nick’s school, asking for help from his homeroom teacher, Mrs. Emma. Then she started to tell the history of Nick’s scars. A puzzled but sympathized look appeared on Mrs. Emma gnarled but gentle face as she hear the story.
“Nick was sleeping at home on that destine night.” said Mrs. Mary.
Mrs. Mary paused to control her tears from falling.
“He was sleeping with his back facing the window in that stormy night. A lightning struck, and the window was blown to pieces. I was right on the bed next to Nick’s. Although the blanket did cover most of his body, the two largest sheet of glass already cut deep into Nick’s back.. I immediately carried Nick to the nearest hospital.” said Mrs. Mary
“He was saved at last, but the marks are still there.” she continued.
The teacher finally speak, while her face look even worse than before.
“How terrible! I’m so sorry for Nick! Poor him, nobody knew about that.” said Mrs. Emma
“Please, I beg you. Help him.” Mrs. Mary finally talked in a shaky voice, holding Mrs. Emma hands.
After a few weeks, Nick finally came back to class. Nobody talked when he came in. Nick just went to the table near the window and looked out to the rain, as if it could help.
“Class! Stand!” shouted the class monitor like it’s his only thing to do.
“Good morning Mrs. Emma” everyone said that together, everyone except Nick.
“Anyone know who or what an angel is?” started Mrs. Emma.
 “A fairy!”
“Someone who is from the heaven!”
“ The one who give us one dollar if we put the first tooth we lost under our pillow.”
Tons of answer was thrown to Mrs. Emma.
“So is there anyone know that angel are among us?” Mrs. Emma continued.
The students’ eyes was wide-opened. The room was silent and filled with curiosity. Some fidgeted, while some just look at Mrs. Emma, the look of inquiring.
“When I was young, my grandfather usually told me stories every rainy day. One day he asked me the same question I asked you just now.” said Mrs. Emma.
“Before, the angel lived on the heaven. After seeing people doing bad deeds, they was sent to by the King of Gods to make things better. The angel after flying to the Earth, they tore off their wings on their backs. It was because of the fact that they would lose their power if being identified by a human. When they tore their wings off, it left two scars along their backs.”
The story was told in a voice that even without rhyme, was still like a song. Everyone just listen to it, everyone, even Nick. Some kids then turned and looked at Nick. People saw that in Nick’s eyes, a small fire of confident, which was extinguished before, was once again ignited.
A few years later, the annual Country swimming contest was held as usual. It was hard to believe but Nick joined the team. When took off his shirt and get warmed up, in contrast to before, his friends on the spectator seats all cheered for him. They even have a banner. It said, “Go Nick! Our one and only angel!”

Writting Focus - Describing

I don't know if you knew this already but I already have a girlfriend. A typical girl that would make you think Cleopatra had been reborn. One thing that I'm a little bit shy with is that when she's next to me, people said we make the number 10, since I'm a bit "chubby".  She always care about her friends, and help them to her limit. She's really cheerful and usually the mood maker of a group. Every day, she seem to be the center of all the laughter. She's quite unique from others. They are either an encyclopedia or a party animal but she is a party-encyclopedia.

* This is all fictional, meaning it's imaginary and not true ^_^ (especially the part "I already have a girlfriend ^_^)

Interview

I made an interview with my friend Jennifer, who is half Vietnamese, half Norwegian. I asked questions by chatting ^.^
Jack Tran: where were your parents born?
Jennifer Fuhr: my  mom was born in vietnam
Jennifer Fuhr: and my father was born in norway
Jack Tran: ok
Jack Tran: so what are your favorite foods?
Jennifer Fuhr: my favorite foods are : pizza, komle, sushi, pinneskjøtt, ribbe, and kichi kichi
Jack Tran: komle?
Jennifer Fuhr: it´s a norwegian food
Jack Tran: oh
Jack Tran: so what do you most enjoy doing?
Jennifer Fuhr: like in the free time??
Jennifer Fuhr: or sports
Jack Tran: both
Jennifer Fuhr: I used to dance, sing, play handball, play basketball, hanging with my friends
Jennifer Fuhr: and shopping too
Jack Tran: do you enjoy school, is your grade..........ok?
Jennifer Fuhr: yeah I do, but sometimes it can be very boring
Jennifer Fuhr: 8th grade is more difficult than last year
Jennifer Fuhr: but it´s kind of fun
Jack Tran: so what is most important to you in life?
Jennifer Fuhr: I don´t know
Jennifer Fuhr: i think it´s education
Jennifer Fuhr: but I´m not sure
Jack Tran: you purely think so or did you change your mind after some incidents?
Jack Tran: like, before you do think so, or you just think that's important recently
Jack Tran: after something happened?
Jennifer Fuhr: something happened
Jack Tran: so, what happened?
Jennifer Fuhr: my grandpa and grandma told me about many stuff
Jennifer Fuhr: and then they said I have to focus on education when O gets older
Jennifer Fuhr: so I started to do what they said
Jack Tran: so if you're going to focus on your study / education, is your interaction with your friends change?
Jennifer Fuhr: no?! I’ll try to focus on my education, but still hang out with my friends because if you focus on 1 thing and erase other things from your life, you wouldn’t gain anything (literally).

After the interview, I found some similarities between us.  Both of us like to be active. Well, that’s predictable since  our peers also want to be active. Also, we think the same. We both think that school is quite boring. We both think that education is the most important. We both think that if we focus on 1 thing and erase other things from our life, we wouldn’t gain anything. Well, that’s all (I think).

Personal Experience Draft

Jack
Period 5
Personal experience
“There are many monkeys around this temple. They are quite aggressive when it comes to food, so don’t provoke them.” said the native tour guide. I wasn’t paying any attention because of the one and only reason: my water holder is full! Right after the bus stopped, I jumped out to the convenience store right next to the parking area, asking for the toilet.
After the relaxing moment, I asked my parents to buy me some snacks, since I was hungry and it wasn’t lunch time yet. Instead, they bought me some bananas, saying that eating bananas are better for your health than snacks. Well, that was my favorite fruit, so nothing to complain anyway.
My brother went looking around. He said that I was very lucky that I didn’t wear the red shirt he gave me as my birthday present. But the best part is that, he was wearing his red tank I gave him for his birthday present. “Come on guy, the quicker you are the more time you can enjoy.” said the tour guide. We hurried to the ticket checking post. There, one facts is revealed, to reach the temple, we have to climb up not so much steps, just about 300 high steps, and that wasn’t cool for me. “Our company will have a prize to anyone who can reach the temple within 10 min.” said the tour guide. Hearing the “prize”, I raced with my brother. Now I can say “Thanks you” for my basketball coach’s stamina training. Both my brother and I reached the temple. Sweat was all over my shirt and my brother’s. We’re too tired to see the time. It seem like breathing was the only thing we could do.
A while later, the tour guide reached us but he said that he didn’t go before us so he couldn’t be sure that we’ve reach the temple in time. Well, can’t blame him. I reached into my pocket for my last two bananas. I’ve had to admit, it was better than any other banana I’ve eaten. Right before I ate my very last banana, a monkey jumped on the stair handle facing me. It looked at the piece of fruit from the trash can and my banana, while I watched what it was doing. Its eyes looked at me, eyes of hunger but somehow, poor, especially with its torn and weak body.
Well, I was a kid, a naughty kid. I walked toward the monkey and put my hand with the banana right above its head. When the monkey was about to reach its hands to get the banana, I dodge my hand side-way, and laugh at the monkey acting so silly. Suddenly, it started to growl. Right then, the monkey chased me. Maybe I screamed out loud, but more important, I was running for my safety. I ran and ran, just wish that I didn’t do what I did. I realized who the one that acted silly back then was. I dropped the banana, but the monkey didn’t even slow down. The tiredness beat me. I felt down on my knee. The monkey jumped to my hand, bit my hand like it released all its hatred to bite. I was sent to the clinic after that, the nurse there said that I was lucky that it was a baby monkey, so my wound wasn’t very deep.
After time and time of remembering, I still get a shock from the painful strike of that monkey. I eventually realized two really true facts. Firstly, banana might make your health bad. Secondly, the meaning of the statement: “treat others like you want to be treated.”  But it’s ironic for me to think about this. I was wounded by animals, but this made my love them even more. Also, if I could have one wish, I wish that I wouldn’t do that.

Flowers for Algernon Writting Homework

What Dr. Strauss mean is that the learning of Charlie Gordon is extraordinary. His effort was proportion to the effort a normal person would have to put in to learn the theory of relativity on his own, without any others' help. For me, personally I disagreee with that statement. The efforts of learning to read and write, in my opinion, wouldn't have to take the same effort as a normal person learning a complex scientific theory, even though you're a person with the IQ of 68. A kid may have a much lower amount of IQ, but they did manage to learn how to read and write. I, for example, learned to read and write while I was in kindergarten. By the end of the years of kindergarten, I was able to read and write short passages myself without any helps. In conclusion, in my opinion,  to say that Charlie Gordon's progress of learning to read and write proportional to the progress of a normal person learning a complex scientific theory, isn't right
